The Thief on the Cross and Salvation

person holding brown wooden cross

What does a man moments away from death who puts his faith in Christ teaches us about Salvation?

Consider the following:

Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.

(Luke 23:43)

Jesus said these words to the thief crucified next to him. Both men would shortly be dead. In his moments before death, the thief acknowledged Jesus as the Son of God and asked for forgiveness. And for that, Jesus promised him eternal life.

It’s a cliché, but it’s true: every passing moment is another chance to turn it all around.

Even if you’re on your deathbed.

I do believe that last-minute conversions are valid, so long as the convert sincerely means what they say in their heart.

All that is required for salvation is faith and repentance.

No matter what you’ve done, no matter if you have stumbled, always take heart: you have the ability to turn it all around.

Seek God and ask forgiveness.

Get back into the game.

God cares, work harder.
